Connecticut State Police troopers were dispatched to a Bradley Road home in Burlington shortly before 1:45 p.m. on Monday, May 20, when a resident reported the black bear had attacked and killed her dogs.

According to police, troopers responded within minutes, and a dead dog was found in the backyard of the home. After meeting with the homeowner, it was determined that she had let her two dogs outside, and one was “immediately attacked and killed by a large aggressive black bear.”

The homeowner said that she only saw the one bear, which was located near the dead dog. When it was approached by the responding troopers, the bear became aggressive, police said, and it was euthanized.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was then notified and responded to the scene. No injuries were reported to the troopers.
